To remove the seat, use a 10mm socket wrench to remove the 2 bolts that hold the seat to the frame, lift back of the seat up and pull the seat out from the front clip. Using the same 10mm socket remove the 2 bolts that retain the tank, remove the knurled nut that retains the end of the speedometer cable and note how it is routed through wire and control cables. Remove the fuel line as noted with the petcock in the run position. Then slid the rear of the tank to the left and lift the fuel petcock assembly around the left frame rail. Lift the tank up and disconnect the plug for the speedo and warning lights. Pull the tank up to allow the sppedo cable to come up through the frame. Helps if the tank is not full and may need an extra set of hands to do the connections. Good bookstores can get the Clymer manual in days or you can order it online. The 86-88 version will be fine for your bike.
